Do you think there are too many Lifestyle Bloggers? Fashion Bloggers? Beauty Bloggers?
I mean, after all, what else is there to say? How many beauty products, trends, travel tips, food posts can one read before they all become repetitive, mundane, annoying? Heck, you review one BB Creme, you’ve essentially reviewed them all, right?
And aren’t most lifestyle bloggers really just shallow, pretentious, narcissistic, selfie posting, twenty-somethings who just want to make people believe that they are living these amazing lives when they are really just blogging from their childhood bedrooms, littered with Dorito bags, wine bottles, and Haagen Das cartons? *Joking*
These are all the thoughts that are going through my head as I write this first post for this new…ahem…lifestyle blog. A lifestyle blog that I’m sure will have its fair share of product reviews, travel tips, and food posts and yes folks…selfies.
Yes, in spite of all that I said above, I am starting yet another lifestyle blog.
So what makes me different?
For one, I am not a twenty-something…you’re gonna wanna multiply that number by 2. I am an older, more mature, blogger.
And believe it or not, there is a benefit to this being older. I have had some very interesting experiences that I can chalk up to age and the passing of time (like being married since I was practically 12). And I just don’t have the filters that a lot of younger people still have, so there is really no telling what I might write about on any given post, in addition to the lifestyle stuff. Hence the title of my blog, Musings and Sugar Honey Iced Tea.
Also, if you younger readers are concerned that I am ancient and can’t relate or that I don’t know what’s trending, or poppin or whatever, rest assured that I am the cool mom of grown millennials, who gets nothing but great joy when my son cringes every time I sing/rap along word for word to Drake’s lyrics. I am the chica who will tell you straight up about getting older and maneuvering the craziness in the world, because if you live long enough, you’re gonna get old too, and you’re gonna wanna know. I’m the one who can help you, cause truly, I’m just “lit” like that. 🙂
Secondly, I am also on a Simple Glamour journey. It’s like Minimalism, but without all the dogma. Realistic Minimalism, if you will. I’m learning as I go along and I think it will make for good reading…whether I stick to it or not. BTW, I’m not sure why I used the word secondly…is it even a word? I have been known to make things up.
And third, this is like my 4th blog. I had a really awesome blog back in 2008, it was like the giver of life through a screen. I enjoyed writing it and it seemed that many people enjoyed reading it. It was really cool.
…and then it was hacked… by possible terrorists…or people pretending to be.
Scary stuff, right?
In any case, I have been trying very hard to get back to my former blogging glory. I have had false start after false start. But now I am ready to push through to success, come hell, high water or faux terrorist by any means necessary.
That sounded really good in my head.
And last, I am the least pretentious person you’ll ever meet, it is never about showing off for me, but rather it is about sharing. Although I don’t know how anyone can be a lifestyle blogger without at least a tiny bit of narcissism.
*inserts selfie that you see below the title of this post*
Ultimately, any blogging is about sharing one’s own experiences. If that kind of Narcissism is wrong, I don’t want to be right. Ba dum bum ching!!
That sounded better in my head as well.
Thanks for reading this post. I won’t blame you if think I’m slightly nuts. You can think it and still join me on the next post. In the meantime…
Smooches and such,
