I am a huge fan of double cleansing. I credit it with really helping to improve my skin tremendously. If you think its hype, look at it this way. At the end of the day, you have makeup and dirt and life on your face. When you come home, you need to get that stuff off. Sure one cleanser can do it. Some people swear by wipes, micellar waters or just a simple cleanser. And if that’s working for you, that is fine. But if you are finding that you are having problems with your skin, or that your skin is not as vibrant or as clear as you would like for it to be, it could be because you are not getting your face clean enough. Of course, since this post is about specific second cleansers that I like, I will expound on the whys and hows of double cleansing in another post.
My criteria for a good second cleanser:
- It actually cleans and sanitizes my skin
- It feels good on my face
- It has a pleasant fragrance (primarily because my second cleanse doubles as my morning cleanser.
- It does not strip or tighten my face
- Does not foam or have any detergents
There are a few, five to be exact, cleansers that I have been enjoying over the past year or so that fit the above criteria nicely.
1. Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel
A very refreshing cleanser that is excellent for times when your skin is broken out or congested. Helps to clear things quickly and leaves skin clean without drying.
2. Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser
A very good, basic cleanser, removes the residue from the first cleanse very well, leaves the face soft and conditioned. This does have a synthetic, chemical-like scent that can be a tad off putting, but it goes away quickly.
3. Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser
I can’t say enough good things about this one. It has a lovely, refreshing scent, cleans your skin thoroughly and actually does brighten. The packaging is perfect, as well.
4. La Prairie Cleansing Foam
Although it has foam in the name, it is actually more of a creamy cleanser. This is very high end and luxurious and you can tell when you use it on your face. Does a great job removing residue from the face.
5. Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip
I love this one because of the clay. Clay based products are wonderful for drawing impurities from the skin. This one can double as a mask as well as a cleanser. Leaves the face soft, conditioned and ready for the remainder of your skincare routine.
