Monday Confessions: The Vlog That Almost Wasn’t (Video)

So finally I posted the vlog today that I was supposed to post last Sunday. Last Sunday because the plan is to post on the channel at least once a week and Sunday was the designated day.

A new vlog was supposed to go up this week, but that’s not how things ended up working out.

This last vlog was particularly difficult to edit, not because of the footage, but because I needed to recuperate from the Women’s March last Saturday. The plan was to tweak the vlog on last Friday, put the finishing touches on it Saturday evening (after the march) and Sunday morning. Bu Sunday evening, the vlog should have been up.

I should have known, with my introverted tendencies that this was never going to happen. It took me almost 3 days to recharge my battery after spending the day in the midst of a sea of people marching and chanting through the streets of DC. And to add insult to injury, as soon as I recharged, we started celebrating our anniversary this week, 27 long years, good years, but long. We went to two dinners and spent some fun time together, so, you guessed it, nothing remotely vloggy got done.

Now it is Sunday, (yes I know this is a Monday Confessions post and I know it’s early, bear with me y’all, I’m trying to get ahead of the power curve) and the vlog is finally up.

Of course, it’s the vlog that was supposed to be up last Sunday, but that is not the point. The point is that it is up and you can watch it at the end of this post.

I have to say that I really am enjoying making these vlogs; the process, the content creating, and even the editing. What I am not enjoying, however, is the feeling that I am always playing catch up. I am working on getting out ahead of things, so I can do what I love and actually enjoy the process, instead of running and tripping clumsily behind it.  I feel really puzzled by this sometimes because I never had this problem when I worked for other people.

We never treat ourselves with the respect and the sense of importance that we treat others.

That needs to change.

I also feel as though life stands in the way and challenges me whenever I declare that I am going to be consistent, plan ahead, batch my work and try to be a super organized person.

So there will be no declarations, just a whole lot of creative organizing and plugging along.

In the meantime, while I get my life, you can enjoy the Vlog below.

Honestly, that is all I was really trying to say in this post. I am pretty sure I could have saved most of these words for another post and just posted the video. But what’s the fun in that?

So just a heads up, I talk about the planner that I am using this year in this vlog. I am using what I like to call a Bujolofax. It is the Inkwell Press inserts inside of an A5 Filofax, and my weeks on two pages or set up bullet journal style. I also included a few products that I purchased, a sweater from And Other Stories, and I give myself a DIY Oil Manicure. I did include some footage from the Women’s March as well, so if that is not your thing, feel free to keep it moving. Not everything has to be discussed or even acknowledged. Some things can be skipped. I included the footage because I vlog and blog about my life in addition to cool products, clothes, and lifestyle. The march is something that I did, enjoyed and would do again. It would be disingenuous to cut it out, not that I would have anyway.

Ultimately, we all have points of view, this is just mine. I respect the views of others, all I ask is, if you choose to watch, please do the same. So that’s it. I hope you enjoy the vlog.

Also, tell me, how do you keep from falling behind? I’d love to know.

See you in the next post.

  2. First of all keep in mind all that you have accomplished since your recent come back in (November?) and take pride in that body of work. I think you mentioned recently (on you tube) that you see an uptick in views – this is a good thing.

Pace yourself and be honest about what is realistic for your output considering your family or other personal circumstances in the near term. Remember that what is best for you is also best for your subscribers and viewers because if it works for you then you will meet the most important objective…consistency.

Personally, when I subscribe to a channel or view a blog I am happy to see a post 1 time per week. Most of us have multiple subscriptions that we also have to make time to view and provide feedback to the creator, so we have to be somewhat organized too and know our limits (those of us who view our role as subscribers with some responsibility anyway).

Be encouraged. Always choose to be grace by being thoughtful and taking your time. Make it easy on yourself.

    I enjoy your work.
